Sweet Charity is a benefit organized to help The Heart of America Foundation’s® Books from the HeartSM program. The program provides books for disadvantaged children with little or nothing to read. Sweet Charity was created and is co-hosted by Albert Uster Imports, an importer and distributor of fine gourmet foods. The proceeds from ticket sales and silent auction will help replenish under-resourced libraries and classrooms in the greater Washington region.
Sweet Charity began as a small fundraiser in Chicago in 2003 with only a few local chefs and their guests. Since its inception, Sweet Charity has grown to become a successful fundraiser and a highly anticipated annual event, particularly well known for its Des Alpes Chocolate Fashion Show.
In 2009 more than 40 participating chefs actively applied Albert Uster Imports chocolate to design fanciful chocolate fashions. Models and their clothing were decorated predominantly with chocolate, a metaphor for every child’s sweetness and innate potential.
At the event:
- Ken Harvey, selected recipient of the 2009 Heroes of the Heart Award
- Chocolate Fashion Show with celebrity models
- More than forty award-winning chefs
- Sweet & savory tasting stations
- Mind-bending chocolate sculptures
- Silent auction (including sports memorabilia, wine, food, theater tickets, etc.)
The Heart of America Foundation® is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible.
