Karen DuncanBoard chair
Karen Duncan volunteers at organizations that focus on early literacy, ending hunger and animal welfare. She previously worked in education and non-profit settings, focused on creating high quality experiences for young people and families. A native of Australia, Karen now resides in Chicago with her husband and two college-aged children.

Marcia Bullard
Marcia is the retired president & CEO of USA WEEKEND Magazine. She was a founding editor of USA TODAY and spent her career as a newspaper journalist. While at USA WEEKEND, Ms. Bullard founded the national day of volunteering Make A Difference Day, which grew to be an international day of doing good. She is passionate about the value of nonprofits, especially those focused on education and journalism. She serves on several nonprofit boards and has worked for many years as a reading tutor to elementary schoolchildren. Ms. Bullard holds an M.B.A. from The George Washington University and a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University. She started in the news business at age 17 in her hometown of Springfield, IL, and taught journalism at the University of Rochester, NY. She resides in Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, PA, where her husband retired as an editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Mary Christ-Erwin, president of MCE Food & Agriculture Consulting, works with the food and agriculture industries on strategic planning, issues management and policy communications. Formerly, Mary led Porter Novelli’s Food, Nutrition and Policy discipline. Mary’s experience in issues and product and organizational positioning has been integral to clients ranging from The Walt Disney Corporation to McDonald’s to the Florida Department of Citrus and Taylor Farms.

Steven M. KaufmanPartner Hogan Lovells US LLP
Steve Kaufman is a partner at Hogan Lovells, an international law firm headquartered in Washington DC and London, handling corporate transactional matters. Steve has served on the boards of two other charities, and is long-standing pro bono counsel for America’s Charities, which assists charities in raising funds through workplace giving campaigns including the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).

Rebecca LichtenfeldExecutive Director, InMaat Foundation
Rebecca (Becky) Lichtenfeld is an Emmy Award–winning producer and impact strategist who believes media and the arts are powerful tools for advancing human rights. Over the past two decades, she has led creative advocacy initiatives connecting filmmakers, artists, heads of state, and organizers around the world. She is currently the Executive Director of the InMaat Foundation, supporting organizations and film projects focused on gender justice and human rights. She is the executive producer of several Oscar-nominated documentary films and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

She deeply understands school communities and is committed to supporting their growth, while improving the quality of life for all children through a lens of equity.

Terry McDonoughPresident, 4MATIV Technologies
Terry McDonough leads growth, strategy and finance at 4MATIV Technologies, a student transportation firm that supports school systems in meeting budget goals and enhancing service. Prior to joining 4MATIV, Terry led the education technology division of Strategic Education, a global post-secondary education firm. He is a former McKinsey consultant and Teach for America Corps Member and an alumnus of MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and The College of William and Mary.

Scott NelsonFounder and Principal SAN Prop Advisors
Scott Nelson is currently the principal of SAN Prop Advisors, a retail real estate advisory firm. He previously served in various senior leadership positions at Target Corporation. Scott received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Minnesota. Scott also serves on the Board of Directors of InvenTrust – a real estate investment trust. Scott lives with his wife in Southwest Florida and enjoys guest lecturing at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Hogan Lovells has served as pro-bono counsel to The Heart of America Foundation for the past two decades.
